Philippines defeats China to open 2017 Fiba Asia Cup bid (Video Highlights)

Gilas Pilipinas pulled off some revenge for their defeat in the FIBA Asia Championship final 2015, after a victory against China, 96-87, on Wednesday, August 9 in Beirut, Lebanon to open their 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Terence Romeo led the Gilas with 26 points on a two-pointer and a huge 3-pointer which broke the 87-all deadlock and pulled Gilas Pilipinas to safety after the team blew a 17-point lead. He converted 5 of 7 triples and added four assists in only 21:30 minutes.

Fil-German Standhardinger, who replaced Andray Blatche, added 15 points with 6 rebounds and one assist, while Jayson Castro and Matthew Wright added 13 and 12 points respectively which gave way for the team’s first win against China since the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup bronze-medal game.

Gilas’ next game will be on Friday, August 11 at 6:30 pm against Iraq in the continuation of the group phase.
