Filipina 15-year-old Marlisa Punzalan was the surprise winner of the X Factor 2014 Australia grand final on Monday, October 20, 2014.

Punzalan beat 22-year-old judges’ favourite Dean Ray Dean Ray and folk-pop trio Brothers 3.

Just 14 when she first auditioned, Marlisa, whose parents are both Filipino became the youngest ever winner of the X Factor since its run in 2005.

Marlisa's mentor Ronan Keating tweeted that "Whatever happens shes a star in my eyes".

“What a way to kick-off the Grand Finals! That was incredible. You have just got up to the peak, that was perfect,” Redfoo said, after she belted out her audition song "Yesterday."

Marlisa once again received standing ovation from judges in the winner’s single round as she performed "Stand By You."

“Stand by You, great title, great performance. All throughout of the competition, you have an absolute style and grace. Well done, that was an absolutely superb performance,” Dannii said.

“Who you are is so endearing and the fact that you are not over confident. Who you are is everything. Right now is all about authenticity and you are so authentic, you are so real. You’re not affected by the bright light and the fame of the show in any way,” Ronan said.

As the two acts left in the show vying for the ultimate title of “X Factor Australia,” 22-year-old Dean and 15-year-old Marlisa performed a duet, singing together “Beneath Your Beautiful.”

“This has been the tightest result in X Factor history,” host Luke Jacobs said. “There is literally a 0.01% difference in the votes. It is so close.”

Even before her name was announced, Marlisa showed her anxiety through her expressive face. Marlisa was left in a state of shock standing next to mentor Keating when her named was called out.

"I just cant believe it," Marlisa said. "I feel like I'm floating on a cloud right now. Thank you so much Australia, I couldn't have done it without you."

“I’m so proud of her. She’s been unbelievable. What a superstar! So deserving of the title. It has only taken me five years!” proud mentor Ronan Keating said.

The ex-Boyzone member star is the longest serving judge in the show, having taken a seat at the panel from 2010.

Marlisa Punzalan is are the latest Filipino to make waves in international television reality music competition, which followed the footsteps of "The X Factor Israel" grand winner Rose Fontanes.

The The X Factor Australia 2014 is based on the original X Factor UK series, to find new singing talent.

The show was hosted by Luke Jacobz. Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Dannii Minogue and Redfoo served as judges.
