Naturalized Filipino Andray Blatche finished with game-highs 20 points and 11 rebounds as Gilas Pilipinas hold off the Iran for a 81-70 victory in a tune-up game on Wednesday, June 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippines men's national basketball team, had a 23-point lead in the third quarter, only to have Iran come back within two, 72-70, before using a 9-0 spurt led by Blatche to close out the Iranians.
Ryan Reyes, Terrence Romeo and Japeth Aguilar scored 12 points each for Philippines. Bobby Ray Parks added 11 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.
The Asian rival Iran was led by the 16 points and 3 boards of Behnam Yakhchali. Oshin Sahakian finished with 13 points.
The Iranian team were without veteran star players Hamed Haddadi, Mehdi Kamrani, and Samad Nikkhah Bahrami.
Gilas Pilipinas led by Coach Tab Baldwin is scheduled to leave for a European training camp and pocket tournaments on Friday and will return home on June 28, just days before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament from July 5 to 10.
