The three-year wait is over. The Barangay Ginebra are back in the PBA Finals for the first time since the 2013 Commissioner's Cup, after defeating the San Miguel Beermen, 117-92, during the do-or-die semifinals game 5 of 2016 Governors' Cup.
Import Justin Brownlee poured in game-high 26 points while best player of the game Scottie Thompson scored career-high 24 points for the Ginebra who finished the series, 3-2.
Thompson also had 15 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, a block and shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Sol Mercado bounced back from a scoreless showing in Game Three with 18 markers on 5-of-8 3-point shooting on top of 6 assists and a steal.
LA Tenorio also played big with 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.
Arwind Santos led the Beermen with 24 points, while reigning back-to-back MVP June Mar Fajardo, who shot just one attempt, settled for 7 points to go with 12 rebounds.
Elijah Millsap struggled, only had four points in the first three quarters, and finished with 18 markers.
Ginebra last won a title in the 2008 Fiesta Conference. They will meet the Jimmy Alapag-led Meralco Bolts in the 2016 PBA Governors' Cup Finals that starts on Friday, October 7.The scores:
