Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles was elected as the new president for two years of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Saturday, July 8 at the start of the July plenary assembly at the Pope Piux XII Catholic Center in Manila.
The new leader takes over after Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas who finishes his second and final term this year.
Other newly elected CBCP officers are Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio (Vice President), Palo Archbishop John Du (Treasurer), and Fr. Marvin Mejia (secretary general).
85 bishops, 74 active, five diocesan administrators and six retired attended the opening of the plenary assembly on Saturday.
