After the prior confirmation of University of the Philippines Diliman Administration of no tuition fee collection, the UP Los Baños (UPLB) announced that they are also suspending the collection of tuition from its undergraduate students starting this coming semester.
"As instructed by Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez Jr., tuition fee collection for undergraduate students for the semester of AY 2017-2018 shall be suspended until further notice," read a memorandum issued by UPLB Vice Chancellor Portia Lapitan on Wednesday.
The House of Representatives already approved the P8-billion budget from the pork barrel fund to cover the eight UP constituent universities and other state universities and colleges.
UPLB Vice chancellor also said that until there is clarity on the measure that are covered by the budget to subsidize college education, miscellaneous and laboratory fees would still be collected from the undergraduate students.
With enrollment period to start on thursday, Lapitan states the the national government allocation for UP will not be enough to support all of the university’s students.
Meanwhile, University of the Philippines Manila also announced on Monday, July 25, its cancellation of tuition fee collection for the first semester of A.Y. 2017-2018 as per advised by their Chancellor Carmelita David-Padilla.
