Gilas Pilipinas fell on South Korea, 118-86, in the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 quarterfinal knockout round of the in Beirut, Lebanon on Wednesday, August 16 (Thursday, August 17, Manila time).
Team Korea was well executed on the game for they missed just five of their 21 attempts beyond the arc, thus, shot better from three-point land (76.19 percent) that it did from two-point distance (62.22%) or from the free-throw line (63 .64%).
The team also had 20 more assists than Gilas, 34-14, and dominated the boards, 34-30, with 66.67 percent shot overall.
Terrence Romeo exploded in the second quarter with a total 22 points and single-handily carried the country on his shoulders which kept Gilas within striking distance, 47-59, at the halftime break.
On the other hand, Christian Standhardinger started hot as he accumulated 9 points in the first quarter and added 17 points and four rebounds all in all, Pogoy chipped in 12 and Jayson Castro with 11 points and four assists.
Oh Se Keun, veteran of the Korean team dominated the match with 22 markers and 5 boards. Kim Sun Hyung followed closely with 21 points and 4 assists.
Gilas Pilipinas will play in the classification round for positions 5 to 8 on Saturday, August 19, against Lebanon.
