Malacañang announced Friday, September 1, 2017, as nationwide regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, August 29 signed Proclamation 297 setting this day as a holiday based on the Islamic Calendar, thus, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos determined the celebration this year to fall on September 1.
"Now, therefore, I, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 01 September 2017, as a regular holiday throughout the country," the document stated.
Republic Act 9849 states that Islam's two major feasts; Eid'l Adha, along with Eid'l Fitr, shall be declared as a regular holiday.
Observance of the feast starts another long weekend of 2017 until September 3, Sunday.
